Facial care routine: Essential tips for every skin

Sure, it's ideal if you know your skin type, more on that below. However, what we have been able to crystallize in countless skin consultations are a few basics that make up a good facial care routine. They can help the skin to stay in balance or - if it is already out of balance - to get back to it. They are universally applicable to all skin types and are crucial to a good skin care routine.

So don't be fooled if you're not sure about your skin type, trust the four basic rules and use them to pimp your facial care routine to the next level. These are our top 4 tips:

1. Rely on a mild facial cleansing

Cleansing is the biggest lever to soothe unbalanced skin. That is why it is also the focus of our tips. However, we do not mean an intensive cleansing of the skin with x products. No, in the morning we recommend nothing but plenty of lukewarm water for all skin conditions.

In the evening it looks a little different, because make-up, sunscreen and everyday impurities should always be removed without exception. Your product for this is our FIVE make-up remover . Have you just lounged on the sofa without make-up all day? Then it is sufficient, exceptionally, to wash your face with lukewarm water in the evening as well.

2. (Almost) all skin needs moisture

Usually only very young skin can do without the external supply of moisturizing serums and gels. For everyone else, it is essential in the facial care routine. All products that have a mostly transparent and gel-like texture and a high proportion of water or plant water provide your skin with moisture. The aqueous components are bound by hyaluronic acid and glycerin - a gel is formed. The water-binding abilities of these substances ensure that moisture is retained on your skin over a longer period of time. Our product for this is the FIVE facial serum .

Good to know: Oils or other waterless products are not moisturizing, but moisture-retaining. They seal the skin slightly and thus prevent water stored in your skin from evaporating to the outside too quickly.

3. Avoid over-groomed skin

Our skin is an organ that is sometimes easily forgotten. It has countless mechanisms that ensure the optimal balance between inside and outside. If we intervene too much in this system, the skin loses its balance, becomes sensitive, impure and - yes, unfortunately - ages faster. It is therefore important to find the balance between supportive but not excessive skin care.

Far too often, a well-intentioned facial care routine is the cause of skin problems. At FIVE , puristic care has a system. Our products all contain a maximum of five ingredients. This prevents you from oversaturating the skin with too many different substances. But using too much product or using it too often during the day can also lead to over-care.

4. Include diet, stress and lifestyle

If skin problems get out of hand, a change in care alone in the facial care routine is unfortunately usually not enough. Our lifestyle – primarily a constantly high level of stress – can have an enormous impact on the skin. Recent studies also show that nutrition plays a much greater role in skin health than previously thought.

A change in eating habits or lifestyle are long-term projects. With our blog articles we would like to show you the connections between nutrition, stress and skin and offer you a few suggestions. The goal isn't to reach perfection without fun here, the journey is the goal and small adjustments lead to big changes in the long run.

Understand the difference between skin type and skin condition

Perhaps you will never get a clear picture of your skin type. This is often not so easy to differentiate and is influenced by temporary skin conditions such as impure skin or dehydrated skin over the course of life. But this is no reason to worry, you will certainly notice a trend after reading it and with the right tips you will be able to put together your facial care routine that suits you.

As a first step, find out the general tendency of your skin. Don't observe your current skin condition, but think about how your skin was when you were 20 years old or - if you can't remember - over the past few years. Imagine a pendulum. Is it more in the oily skin area, is the pendulum in the middle for normal skin, or does it tend to be in the dry skin area? Did you spot a trend? If yes, fine. If not, fine, your skin type seems somewhere in the middle, normal to combination skin.

The four genetic skin types are:

In the second step , we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the difference between skin type and skin condition: skin type is genetic, you are born with it and it stays with you for life. Nevertheless, skin type changes over time. The older you get, the drier and more dehydrated your skin becomes. In the meantime, the skin type may have some hormone-related antics and thus change during puberty, pregnancy and menopause. These temporary skin conditions can be caused not only by hormones but also by stress and eating habits.

Skin conditions, temporary:

We hold firmly: There are four skin types, which primarily depend on your disposition. There are also temporary skin conditions triggered by hormones or external circumstances. The only important thing is that you do not care for your temporary skin problems such as impure skin, dehydrated skin or mature skin contrary to your actual skin type. To prevent this from happening, we will start with articles on temporary skin conditions below. In each article, we will first highlight your actual skin type and thus suggest the right facial care routine for you.
